Is it better to buy Japanese used cars or local used cars?

I’ve been going back and forth lately about whether Japanese used cars are actually a better deal than local used cars. On one hand, Japanese vehicles seem to have a great reputation low mileage, solid build quality, and usually well-maintained interiors. Many people say the strict inspection standards in Japan keep the cars in good condition, even when they’re several years old.
But then again, local used cars might be easier to inspect in person, have lower shipping or registration costs, and it’s simpler to deal with warranty or parts issues. Plus, local cars often come with full service histories that are easy to verify.
I’m curious how others see it do Japanese imports really hold up better in the long run, or is it mostly hype? Has anyone here bought both and noticed a real difference in reliability or maintenance costs? Would you choose an import next time, or stick with something local?
