"My other car is a broom" [animism and technology in van Allsburg]

Post by halldeckery »

Went to the Triennial exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria and saw a set of tapestries.

One of the tapestries said:
My other car is a broom
and while it might seem far away from the world of kidlit

[there are other exhibitions which are very relevant to children like the Moja Moja Life]

I thought it had a lot of the same idea as the broom as robot

and the widow as the witch.

[the whole Maiden; Witch; Crone concept].

And I think it's a bit cool how the Broom has this Protestant work ethic:
It is gradually revealed that the broomstick has a strong moral centre. It is clearly from the Protestant tradition; it fills its days with hard work, and exacts punishment upon those who don’t live in this way. Even freetime is spent productively, in this case playing piano.
