Every season, loads of players say they'll stick to one class and just enjoy the ride. Then a week or two later, they're buried in alt characters, build planners, and bad Pit runs, wondering what went wrong. Season 12 has been especially brutal for that. The new expansion didn't just add another option, it changed the whole mood of the game. What still works outside the top spot
Spiritborn hasn't gone anywhere. Quill Volley is still great when you want fast, wide clears and a build that feels active without being exhausting. If your focus is bosses, Stinger remains a serious option and the single-target damage is no joke. Necromancer has carved out its own lane too. If the goal is hitting level 60 as fast as possible, Affliction is probably the smoothest route. It levels quickly, doesn't need perfect drops early, and lets you get into endgame without that awkward weak phase. Then there are minion setups, which are still the lazy player's dream. Plenty of people won't admit it, but being able to let your army handle a Nightmare Dungeon while you barely do anything is part of the appeal.
The classes that punish mistakes
Sorcerer and Rogue are in a weird spot. They're strong, sure, but they ask for much more from your gear and your hands. Chain Lightning Sorcerer can feel amazing once everything lines up, though if your Crackling Energy support isn't there, the whole thing starts to wobble. Rogue has the same issue with Dance of Knives. When Momentum falls off, so does your confidence. These builds have huge upside, but they're not friendly. Barbarian players have it even worse. Being pushed toward basic attack setups just to stay relevant in Torment 4 feels wrong, especially for a class that's supposed to thrive on big spenders and heavy hits.
What actually matters when you push
A lot of players obsess over tier lists and miss the simpler stuff that really moves a build forward. In Season of Slaughter, Bloodstained Sigils matter more than people think. If your setup is built for AoE, don't force it into single-target pressure and expect magic. Same goes the other way round. Matching sigils to what your build already does well is often the difference between a smooth Pit climb and getting flattened.
