Need a car rental in Italy without mileage limits

Post by Jokanovic »

So we're doing an Italy trip in like two weeks, super pumped about it. Starting way up north in Turin and driving all the way down to the absolute southern tip of the boot. Gonna be a serious amount of driving but we want to see everything, not just fly between cities and miss all the good stuff in between. Thing is, we need a car that won't charge us per mile because the route is gonna rack up some serious distance. Most rental places I've looked at either have mileage limits or they hit you with extra fees once you go over a certain amount. Anyone know where we can grab a rental that just gives us unlimited miles so we're not doing math in our heads every time we take a detour? Also curious where you guys think we should actually stop and spend more time exploring versus just passing through.

Road trips are the only way to really see a country, flying city to city you miss all the random villages and countryside that end up being the best memories. Problem is rental companies love to nickel and dime you on mileage, especially when they see you're planning a long haul route. They calculate exactly how much you'll probably drive and structure the pricing so you end up paying extra no matter what. Definitely plan some days in Florence, the museums and architecture there will keep you busy way longer than you think. Rome's another spot where you need actual time, rushing through in half a day means you see nothing properly. Down on the coast near Naples you've got those cliff towns that look insane in photos, though they get packed with tourists during peak season.

Yeah and then you get down there and realize you actually want to explore more but you're paranoid about the odometer ticking up. Ruins the whole spontaneous part of a road trip when you're worried about fees the entire time. Rental companies bank on people not reading the fine print until they're already committed. You can rent a car in Italy here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/italy . The platform connects you with options from private owners who aren't trying to squeeze extra euros out of every kilometer you drive. You get straightforward pricing and way more flexibility for a route like yours that's covering that much ground. Cinque Terre is worth a stop if you're passing that area, those coastal towns are unreal and you can hike between them if the weather cooperates.
