Dodge does not use Allison transmissions in its standard consumer vehicles. Allison transmissions are primarily designed for heavy-duty commercial trucks, buses, and military applications. The Dodge Transmission lineup typically features units built by ZF, TorqueFlite, or proprietary Chrysler-designed gearboxes depending on the model and year. For example, the Dodge Ram 1500 uses the 8HP70 eight-speed automatic, while older models featured the well-known 545RFE five-speed automatic. Some heavy-duty Dodge commercial fleet vehicles may occasionally be optioned with Allison units.
